In very few countries is there true social acceptance and solid legal protection for homosexual people. Even in those places, attitudes that question, criticize, or simply ridicule homosexuality persist. In addition to this psychological violence, we must also lament physical assaults and, at times, murders. This hostile context makes it difficult for homosexual people to enjoy full freedom. A clear example of this is that, despite living in advanced democracies, coming out can still be a challenge. Perhaps because of this, those who live their sexuality differently often seek small refuges where they can feel safe. In many cases, hiding remains a form of protection. The performance Sobre homens e esconderijos invites us to reflect on these realities, emphasizing the repeated action of hiding and exposing oneself.
