Performance

This performance prompts a reflection on the frustration stemming from futile effort. Throughout a significant part of the performance, I describe a repetitive circular movement that could evoke obsessive behaviors. I establish prolonged pauses by sitting in a chair. While in motion, I walk barefoot with a black rubber band tied around my neck, which, on the other end, holds and drags a pair of skates. These skates have lost their original function and now serve as a heavy burden. The friction of the skates against the floor produces an annoying noise that accompanies the entire action. In the final minutes, I remain seated in the center of the space while a modified version of Madonna’s well-known song, Hung Up, plays. The repeated phrase in the song, Time goes by so slowly, evolves into an auditory mantra that accompanies the final phase of the performance.
