In a broad sense, this performance explores disenchantment, taking as its starting point the universal experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. As in previous projects, I begin the performance by singing a musical piece, in this case, a free version of the well-known Somewhere over the rainbow. Unlike Judy Garland’s hopeful rendition in The Wizard of Oz, our presentation appropriates this theme to weave an ironic critique questioning the supposed happiness in certain seemingly perfect worlds. Minutes later, a large black plastic bag slowly covers my body, while an audio immerses us in a resounding concert of flatulence. This strategy aims to challenge conventional perceptions of happiness and bring to light the disillusionment that may hide behind appearances.
